My Shanghai in China

The Oriental Pearl Tower at night

Shanghai is a municipality-level district in China. The city is located on the east coast of China in the Yangtze River Delta.

The city has the biggest trade port in the world, and in the city and the vicinity of it are abundant beautiful scenic spots to visit.

There are many interesting museums, nice shopping districts, magnificent designed gardens and the city is known for its very friendly population.

At Nanjing Road it is nice to go out and to go out shopping. The road is very colorful at night.

The in 2005 finished Donghai bridge is the longest bridge in the world.
The Yuyuan Garden in the Old Town is considered as one of the four most excellent gardens in China.

Hangpu River and Bund

The famous Hangpu Jiang, the “Yellow Bank River”, is about 100 kilometers long and flowing through Shanghai.

The river divides the city into two regions: Puxi (west), the old town, and Pudong (east), the new financial district.

The Bund of Shanghai is located along the river.Especially at night the district is beautiful lighted and there are cruises to make on the river. The river is the main source of drinking water for the 17 million inhabitants of Shanghai.

Beautiful Gardens

Next to the modern buildings and skyscrapers Shanghai is well-known because of the old town and the wonderful gardens.

Located in the center of the Old City of Shanghai, the Yuyuan Garden is considered as one of the four most excellent gardens in China. The garden was shaped in 1559 by Pan Yuduan to delight his father Pan En, a high-ranking official in the Ming Dynasty.

After a few times being damaged in wars and rebuilt, they were repaired from 1956-1961, opened to the public in 1961, and stated a national monument in 1982.

The garden is separated into six general areas: the Grand Rockery, featuring winding caves, gorges, cliffs and peaks; the Heralding Spring Hall (Dianchun); the Inner Garden, with rockeries, towers, ponds and pavilions; the Jade Magnificence Hall (Yuhua), furnished with rosewood, the Ten Thousand-Flower Tower and the Lotus Pool.

The areas of the garden are divided by “dragon walls” with gray tiled ridges each terminating in a dragon’s head.It is not clear how closely the gardens today resemble its earlier versions, but it is a superb attraction to visit in Shanghai.

Nanjing Road and Chenghuang Miao

The famed Nanjing Road in Shanghai is a striking place to go out and to go shopping. At night the boulevard is beautiful lightened.

There are cinema's, jewellery shops, restaurants, clubs to enjoy. Another, more traditional looking shopping centre in Shanghai is Chenghuang Miao.

Donghai Bridge

The impressive Donghai Bridge is the longest cross-sea bridge in the world. The name means “East Sea Grand Bridge”.The bridge was completed in December 2005.

It has a total length of 32.5 kilometers and is connecting Shanghai with the offshore deep-water port Yangshan. Most part of the bridge is a low-level viaduct, but there is also a cable-stayed span at the bridge to allow the passage of giant ships.

Shanghai is also the busiest trading port in the world. From Shanghai are many goods coming and going through the whole world and China.

Shanghai is a wonderful place to be and to visit and Shanghai is giving a warm welcome to visitors from all over the world.
